Chromium is a Young 88, designed by Jim Young, a famous NZ boat designer. She was built in 1981. In NZ, the Young 88 are very famous and are typical race boats. We have a class of our own which makes racing very competitive.
Construction is fibreglass. She's got a flat bottom which makes her perfect to surf the waves sailing downwind. Draft is 1.78m. The keel is a fin keel with lead ballast.
Sails available: fully battened mainsail, Jib #1, Jib #3, Spinnaker, Storm jibs. Spinnaker would only be handed to experience sailors with track records.
Later this year I will replace with J3 and buy a J2 as well (race sails).
The engine on board is a 1 cylinder diesel engine - ideal to get out of the mooring and back but it won't take you far. She needs (and deserves) to be sailed :).
She's got one large navigator berth (can sleep 2 people), another long thinner berth, a double berth made by removing the table in the lounge. Max to sleep would be 6 but would comfortably sleep 4. Kitchen is fully equipped. There is no fridge however I can lend you my marine cooler if required. Toilets are new and work with a manual pump. No shower.
Electronic equipments include VHF, chart plotter, speedometer and depth sounder, radio. One house battery and one engine battery. No solar cells yet but it is planned for development.
She's a very enjoyable boat to sail. She would suit anyone however please note that while she can be enjoyed cruising, she's a fast boat.
