Boataffair are excited to announce our new series of blogs where we profile the exciting and exotic countries that form part of our global community of boat owners and renters. Each entry will offer a quick snapshot of the country and top tips on what to see and do by sea!

In today’s blog post we dive into the exotic world of boat and yacht rentals in Colombia as we bring you a quick insight into the fascinating country and the best spots to visit on boat from the wonderful and historic port of Cartagena.

Colombia is a Spanish speaking country located in South America that borders with Brazil, Panamá, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru. Known for its lush, tropical climate, beautiful jungles and gorgeous, warming seas, Colombia has become a top destination as tourists and travelers seek a paradisiacal journey through the dazzling country. What makes Colombia particularly special is that, whilst becoming a popular destination, it is not overrun by tourists meaning that you can enjoy an authentic experience without feeling like you are in a very touristy spot.

When traveling to Colombia it is easy to be overwhelmed by the amazing choices of destinations to visit. Be it city, beach or jungle the wide range of terrains and climates accommodate for all tastes. The capital Bogotá is festooned with activities as the sights, sounds and tastes come together for an unforgettable experience. Likewise, the lush jungle canopies of the Amazon offer a wondrous experience in one of the world’s last great wilderness frontiers.

We turn our sights to the magical city of Cartagena (on the Caribbean coast) that is known for its cobblestone streets and colourful colonial buildings. With an all round tropical and gorgeous climate, Cartagena has become a popular beach destination. And it is with sand, beach and waves in mind we turn to the delights offered from renting a boat to explore this gorgeous coastal metropolis.

Whether it is island hopping, exploring the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean or simply escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, discovering Cartagena by yacht is a truly magnificent experience. Our local captains and boat owners have put together their top three must visit places from Cartagena:

Islas Rosario, Isla Baru and Playa Blanca

The Rosario Islands is a small archipelago comprised of 27 tiny, yet perfectly formed, islands to the south of the Bay of Cartagena. Crystal clear waters, natural coral and snorkelling can be enjoyed in the calm and tranquil inlets and bays of the area. Isla Baru, with the famous Playa Blanca, greets you with white sandy beaches, palm trees and the picture perfect sights.

Chiringuito Secret Beach Bocachica

Shh, don’t let everyone know our secret! Situated on the island of Tierra Bomba, Chiringuito Beach is a beautiful location to spend the day and night. The clear blue water is host to a relaxing and quiet beach that is still an undiscovered charm. A leisurely trip to the beach or simply relaxing and admiring the views are the order of the day.

Gente de Mar Beach, Isla Grande

Hiring a boat near Cartagena would not be complete without a visit to the idyllic Gente de Mar beach on the nearby Isla Grande. The gorgeous white sand beach really has to be seen to be believed. Enjoy the warming, lush clear waters and spend your time fishing, relaxing or simply doing nothing.
