The distance between Phuket and Myanmar is short, compared to what beautiful experiences can be found there.
Our recommended itinerary is as follows for this experience:
Day 1: Phuket
Join your yacht in Phuket before getting quickly underway to enjoy some of the highlights of Phuket’s waters. Cruise past the stunning rock formations of ‘James Bond Island’, made famous by The Man with the Golden Gun, and through lush mangroves, before reaching your evening anchorage.
Day 2: Ko Kaï (Chicken Island)
Start the day with brunch on the beach, where you’ll be the only visitors to appreciate the isolated beauty. Make your way, island by island, towards Ko Kaï (meaning Chicken Island) which gets its name from the strange rock formation at one tip of the island that looks like the head and neck of a chicken. Arriving in the early evening you will be able to see the unforgettable sight of thousands of fruit bats emerging from the forest.
Day 3 & 4: Phi Phi and Ko Racha Yai
Set sail for Phi Phi and spend the day enjoying the culture of the Muslim village, which serves as a meeting point for sailors from around the world. The next day I traveled to Ko Racha Yai, a beautiful island that boasts one of Thailand’s loveliest beaches. This area offers incredible diving for keen divers.
Day 5 & 6: Similans and Kawthaung
A long passage will take you towards the Similan Islands, some of the top ten diving and snorkelling locations in the world. With numerous dive spots you will be spoiled for choice and overwhelmed by the wealth of underwater life, coral and colours. After an overnight stay another cruise will take you to Kawthaung, your entry point to Myanmar.
Day 7 & 8: Hastings Island and Lampi
Explore the amazing little market town of Kawthaung and sample your first authentic Burmese breakfast. Your morning cruise will take you to Hastings Island, which sits inside the Mergui Archipelago. Awake early and enjoy some beachcombing as the sun rises, before visiting the ‘sea gypsies’ of Lampi, giving you a real insight into the way of life for these traditional villagers.
Day 9 & 10: West Lampi and Pila Kyun
Enjoy a kayak trip through one of the world’s oldest mangrove forests before exploring the lush jungle on West Lampi. Sail on to the island of Pila Kyun where you can enjoy a fresh barbeque on yet another incredible beach.
Day 11 & 12: Macleod Island and Phuket
More sailing, though this is no hardship thanks to your stunning surroundings and a refreshing sea breeze. On your way south visit Macleod Island, home to the area’s only diving base. An overnight passage will take you back towards Phuket.
Day 13 & 14: Phuket
Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy dinner at the illustrious Royal Phuket Yacht Club for dinner. Spend your last day swimming in the warm waters and reflecting on an incredible charter holiday. Bid farewell to your yacht and depart with memories to last a lifetime.
