London From the River: What Most Visitors Never See
There is a stretch of the Thames at Imperial Wharf, loosely within what most Londoners still call Fulham, where the river is quiet and the yachts sit at their moorings and London feels, briefly, like a different city. Not the London of black cabs and crowded pavements — a slower version, older, the water carrying the sound of it all without the urgency. This is where the fleet begins. This is the London that most visitors to this city will never find.
The Thames is not a backdrop to London. It is the reason London exists where it does. Two thousand years of trade, conflict, ceremony and commerce have taken place on this river, and from the deck of a private yacht moving through the centre of it, that history does not feel distant. It is on both sides of you, simultaneously — the medieval Tower of London and the glass towers of Canary Wharf, the Houses of Parliament and the Tate Modern, the Golden Hinde and the Shard. No museum, no bus tour, no walk along the Embankment gives you this. The river does.
What makes a private yacht charter on the Thames genuinely different from any other way of seeing London is not the comfort or the champagne — it is the perspective. The city that most people experience at street level, looking up, reveals an entirely different character when you are on the water, moving through it at your own pace, with no fixed route and no other passengers.
We have picked guests up at Tower Bridge — standing on the north bank as a private yacht pulls alongside to collect them. It is a moment that reframes everything they thought they knew about this city. That single experience — arriving somewhere familiar by a means that almost nobody uses — is what a Thames yacht charter is really about.
Who Charters the Thames with BoatAffair
Our clients on the Thames are in London for a reason — a board meeting, a cultural trip, a family visit, a celebration. They are staying at The Berkeley, Claridge's, The Savoy, or a private residence in one of the riverside neighbourhoods. They know London. Many have been here dozens of times.
What they are looking for is not a new destination. It is a new relationship with a city they think they already understand.
Some come for the evening — a sunset charter as the Embankment illuminates, a private dinner on the water before the theatre, Tower Bridge at golden hour with a glass of something cold. Some come for a full day: Hampton Court in the morning, arriving by water as Tudor courtiers once did, and back through the heart of the city in the afternoon. Some are entertaining clients for whom a boardroom meeting has limited appeal, and who understand that three hours on a private yacht on the Thames will change the nature of every conversation that follows.
What they all share is that they know the difference between a good experience and a great one. That is what BoatAffair is built around.
The Vessels - Private Yacht Charters on the River Thames
BoatAffair curates a small fleet of exceptional vessels on the Thames, led by the Princess 67 Flybridge — the largest private charter yacht on the river — alongside two distinctive Venetian-built vessels and a striking American commuter yacht. Every charter is entirely private — the vessel, captain and crew are yours exclusively. You choose where you board, where you go, and where the day ends. The river logistics are handled by the crew.

If one vessel defines what a private charter on the Thames can be, it is the Princess 67. At over twenty metres, she is the largest yacht available for private charter on this river — a genuine masterpiece of British engineering, and the vessel BoatAffair returns to again and again when an occasion calls for something exceptional.
Step aboard and the scale of her becomes immediately apparent: a bright, panoramic-windowed saloon with plush furnishings and a refined dining area; three beautifully finished cabins, each with its own character, accommodating up to twelve guests for a day charter; and a flybridge built for open-air lounging and dining with sweeping views across the London skyline. Twin engines and advanced navigation make her cruising smooth and entirely effortless, whatever the day on the river brings.
This is the yacht for the occasion that deserves its own stage — a significant corporate event, a milestone celebration, a client day that should be remembered long after the meeting itself is forgotten. BoatAffair can arrange full onboard catering, champagne service and bespoke entertainment, so that every detail aboard the Princess 67 matches the standard she sets on the water. Few vessels on the Thames offer this combination of scale, elegance and presence — fewer still are available for private charter.

For intimate groups, romantic occasions, engagement celebrations, or any charter where the vessel itself should be part of what people remember — this is the choice.

Landmarks Along the Thames - What You Will See
Every BoatAffair charter on the Thames can be tailored to the landmarks that matter most to you — from a focused two-hour sightseeing cruise to a full day taking in the whole river. These are the sights guests ask for most often.
Tower Bridge and the Tower of London
Sail beneath one of London's great symbols — often raised to allow vessels through, a genuinely thrilling sight from the water. The Tower of London stands directly alongside on the north bank, its walls essentially unchanged since the Norman conquest. This stretch of the river is, for most guests, the moment the charter becomes unforgettable.
The Shard and London Bridge
Europe's tallest building, its glass surface catching and reflecting the Thames below. Seen from the water, the contrast between the Shard's modern verticality and the historic bridges and buildings around it is one of the more striking visual moments on the river.
Westminster - The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben
Timeless and instantly recognisable from every angle, but rarely seen from the water itself. Drifting past Westminster on a private yacht — with the time to actually look, rather than walk past — gives this landmark a different weight entirely.
Greenwich - The Royal Observatory and the Cutty Sark
East of the city centre, where the pace of the Thames changes. The Royal Observatory sits on the hill above the river, the Cutty Sark rests in dry dock at the water's edge, and Greenwich itself — the birthplace of maritime navigation and Greenwich Mean Time — carries a different, older relationship with the sea than anywhere else on the river.
Canary Wharf
London's financial district, all glass and scale, a striking contrast to the historic core upriver. Particularly remarkable at night, when the towers are lit and the water carries their reflection — one of the more photographed stretches of the modern Thames.
What You Can Do on a Thames Yacht Charter
Beyond sightseeing, the Thames opens onto a number of specific, memorable experiences that BoatAffair can arrange as part of your charter.
Tower Bridge Pick-Up
One of the most requested arrangements on the Thames — and one of the most memorable. Your crew positions the vessel at the north bank of Tower Bridge at an agreed time, and you board directly from one of the world's most iconic structures. It is a small logistical detail that completely reframes the experience of a city you may have visited many times. Several guests have described it as the moment London became somewhere new.
Hampton Court by Water
Henry VIII's palace sits on the Thames west of London, accessible by river as it has been for five hundred years. A half-day charter upstream from central London takes you through Chelsea, Putney, Richmond and Teddington before the palace appears on the south bank — arriving by water, as the Tudor court did, is a completely different experience from the coach park. BoatAffair can arrange this route aboard the Princess 67 for groups wanting the full day in genuine comfort.
The O2 Arena - Private Transfer by Yacht
For guests attending an event at the O2, BoatAffair arranges private yacht transfers that turn the journey into part of the evening — departing from various points across the city, from Chelsea Harbour to Canary Wharf, and cruising the Thames as the skyline drifts by. One established route departs in the early afternoon, cruising up through the Thames Barrier, past Tower Bridge and on to Westminster and the London Eye, with an alfresco lunch served on board, before returning to the O2 pier to disembark just minutes from the Arena. Day return packages with full pier duties are available from approximately EUR 7'900. The crew collects you after the event for the return journey — no traffic, no queues, no shared transport.
Kensington Palace Morning with Private Yacht Pick-Up
A curated day beginning at Kensington Palace — birthplace of Queen Victoria, royal residence for over three hundred years — with a private morning visit before being accompanied to Cadogan Pier for a Venetian water limousine charter through the landmarks of central London. This experience combines two of London's most distinctive private offerings into a single day. Contact us to arrange.
Dinner at a River Restaurant or the Globe Theatre
The Thames connects directly to some of London's most interesting dining and cultural venues by water. BoatAffair can arrange drop-off at riverside restaurants or at Shakespeare's Globe for evening performances — arriving by private yacht at venues that most guests reach by taxi. Tell us what you have planned and we will build the charter around it.
Morning, Sunset and Evening Charters on the Thames
The Thames changes character at different hours, and the right time depends entirely on what you want from it.
Morning — Before nine o'clock the river belongs almost entirely to working vessels and the city is at its quietest. For guests who want London without the noise of it — the Embankment still, the landmarks undisturbed, the water reflecting a sky that has not yet been competed for — a morning charter on one of the Venetian vessels is one of the more unusual things available in this city. Westminster at eight in the morning from the water is a London that very few people have seen.
Afternoon — The Princess 67 comes into her own across a full afternoon: time enough for Hampton Court and back, or a slow circuit from Chelsea to Greenwich and along the south bank, with the flybridge open and lunch served as the city goes by. Afternoon is also the time for the Kensington Palace combination — morning at the palace, on the water by noon aboard the Cantiere Serenella.
Evening and sunset — The hour the Thames does best. As the light drops over Westminster and the buildings along the Embankment begin to illuminate, the river takes on a quality that is specific to London and to this time of day. The stone of the Houses of Parliament catches the last of the sun. Tower Bridge reflects in the water below it. The Shard shifts from glass to gold. Guests who have been in London for days, or who live here and think they know it entirely, go quiet.
This is the charter that people describe when they recommend BoatAffair to a friend.
Why Charter with BoatAffair
London is one destination among more than fifty that BoatAffair operates in worldwide. Our clients charter with us on the Greek Islands in summer, in the Maldives in winter, along the Croatian coast in September, across the Caribbean, throughout Asia Pacific — and on the Thames when they are in London for business or pleasure. For guests whose lives take them across multiple continents, having one trusted company that knows their preferences and applies the same standard everywhere has a particular value. Many of our Thames guests go on to charter with us in other destinations — and return to the river the following year.
BoatAffair was founded in Switzerland in 2016 by Natalya and Adrian Walker, and remains family-owned, headquartered in Switzerland with an office in Singapore serving our Asia Pacific clients. Every vessel we offer is personally vetted by the BoatAffair team. Every client is met personally before a booking is finalised, whether in person or online. We do not operate at arm's length.
This is not a platform where you select a yacht and receive a confirmation number. It is a conversation, from the first enquiry to the moment you step off the boat.
How to Book a Privat Yacht Charter on the Thames
Every Thames charter is arranged personally by the BoatAffair team. When you contact us, we ask about your group, the date, the occasion, and what you want the experience to feel like — then we match the right vessel to your plans and handle the logistics from there.
You choose where you board. BoatAffair departs from various locations across the city — from Chelsea Harbour to Canary Wharf — and a Tower Bridge pick-up can be arranged by request. We confirm what is possible for your chosen vessel and date. Drop-off can be at a different location entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions - Yacht Charter Londong Thames
What makes a Thames yacht charte different from a river cruise or sightseeing boat?
Everything on a sightseeing cruise is fixed — the route, the commentary, the other passengers, the schedule. A private yacht charter on the Thames is none of those things. The vessel is yours, the route is built around what you want to see, and the crew works around your pace rather than a timetable. The experience of the same river is completely different.
Can we board anywhere on the Thames?
BoatAffair departs from various locations across the city, from Chelsea Harbour to Canary Wharf, and a Tower Bridge pick-up can be arranged by request. You do not need to start and end in the same place. We confirm the logistics for your chosen vessel and date when you enquire.
Which vessel should we choose?
For the most formal, large-scale occasion — and the largest private charter yacht on the Thames — the Princess 67 Flybridge is our flagship recommendation. For something entirely distinctive and private: the American Style Gentleman's Yacht. For an intimate group or romantic occasion: the Cantiere Serenella. For a shorter charter or first experience of the river: the Serenella Venetian Tender from EUR 2'700 for two hours. If you are unsure, tell us about your group and we will advise honestly.
Can we arrange a private transfer to the O2 Arena?
Yes. We arrange private yacht transfers departing from various points across the city, with one established route taking in the Thames Barrier, Tower Bridge and Westminster en route to the O2 pier, often with lunch served on board. Day return packages with pier duties are available from approximately EUR 7'900. The crew collects you after the event for the return journey. Contact us with your event date for a proposal.
Can we combine a Kensington Palace visit with a yacht charter?
Yes. We can arrange a private morning at Kensington Palace followed by pick-up at Cadogan Pier for a Venetian water limousine charter through central London. Contact us to discuss dates and availability.
Can we go to Hampton Court by water?
Yes. A half-day charter upstream takes you through Chelsea, Putney, Richmond and Teddington before arriving at Hampton Court by river. We arrange this on the Fairline Targa 52 or the Princess 67. Contact us for availability and pricing.
What times of day do you operate?
All hours, including early morning and late evening. Evening and sunset charters are the most requested. We will advise on the best departure time based on your plans and the time of year.
How far in advance should we book?
Summer weekends — June through September in particular — fill quickly. Four to six weeks ahead is sensible for peak season. Midweek and winter charters have more availability. The earlier you contact us, the more options we can offer.
What is included in the charter price?
The vessel and professional crew. Catering, champagne and food and beverage packages can be arranged separately — raise this when you enquire. All prices are subject to additional expenses which we set out clearly in your proposal.
Is the charter entirely private?
Yes. Every BoatAffair charter on the Thames is fully private. There are no shared departures, no other groups. The vessel is yours.
